Stuart Zender Funk Face Pedal Demo Video

Regarded as one of Britain’s all-time greatest bass players, Stuart Zender is best known for being one of the founding members and the original bass player of funk band, Jamiroquai.

Back in 2016 we caught up with Stuart Zender to consider the idea of creating a signature pedal – but not just any pedal… The funkiest, most distinctive filter pedal ever made, with real valve driven distortion and a premium exterior. The outcome was the Ashdown Stuart Zender ‘Funk Face’ twin dynamic filter pedal, which has been widely accepted by funk bass players globally, including Bootsy Collins!

We had the pleasure of having Stuart Zender down at Ashdown in early June 2018 for a good catch up and to film a short and sweet demo video of his pedal.

Playing via his 70’s Fender Jazz bass and Ashdown OriginAL Head (DI’d) Stuart has tweaked the Funk Face’s ‘Sensitivity’ rotary control to dial in a rounded and refined effects response, keeping things pretty clean to compliment the sound of the track. Dependent on your playing style, attack and dynamics – by tweaking the Output and Sensitivity controls in unison – you can range from subtle filtering (which is what you can hear in this video) to a fully responsive “Funk Bass in your Face” Auto Wah.
