Geezer Butler's Monstrous Ashdown Rig
A heartfelt thank you to Bass Magazine for their brilliant feature on one of the most monumental rigs we've ever had the honour of creating, Geezer Butler's custom Ashdown setup for Black Sabbath's final show.
A Farewell Fit for a Legend
On the 5th of July, Black Sabbath will take to the stage one last time in the iconic Aston Villa stadium. For this historic occasion, it as only fitting that Geezer's rig reflect not just the power and character of his playing, but the sheer legacy of the band itself. What started as an idea quickly evolved into a massive project requiring technical design, precision, and passion at every level.
The Ashdown Approach: Collaboration at the Core
This rig wasn't just built, it was crafted. Months of planning led to something truly amazing, thanks to the close-knit collaboration between Geezer Butler, his tech Terry Welty, and of course our very own Dan and Mark Gooday, as well as the entire Ashdown team. From initial concepts through to on-site setups, every single component was designed to deliver both visual impact and sonic dominance.
It was an honour working hand-in-hand with Geezer to bring his vision to life. His attention to tone, feel and stage presence continues to inspire. From the signature "Head of Doom" amp head to the final configuration of the wall of sound, every decision was rooted in a shared goal: to make this final performance unforgettable.
Thank You
A huge thank you to Bass Magazine for capturing the story behind this amazing rig. Their in-depth feature with Dan and Mark looking into the hard work, heritage, and heart that went into this project, and we are proud to share it with the world.
As Geezer takes the stage with his Ashdown rig one last time, we will be watching with pride and gratitude.
