Ashdown Phone Box

So, you love the sound of your Ashdown ABM head, but unfortunately your neighbours don’t share the same appreciation during your late-night living room jamming sessions. What do you do?

Many modern bass amp heads, like Ashdown’s Rootmaster and OriginAL ranges feature a headphone output for such situations, however the vast majority don’t – including many legacy (and much respected) bass amplifier heads and combos.

Eureka! The Ashdown Phone Box solves this everyday problem – and then some.

The Ashdown Phone Box is designed specifically for use with a Solid-State amplifier (one that does not use Tubes/Valves) as they can be used without having to connect a speaker cabinet. Instead of connecting your extension cab, simply connect the output of the amplifier to the Phone Box using the socket marked ‘AMP’ (via ¼” Jack or Speakon). Then plug your headphones in to either of the two provided sockets – either ¼” (6.3mm) Stereo Jack (furthest right) or 3.5mm, depending on the connector type on your headphones.

Use the output volume on the amplifier as normal to adjust your desired volume to your headphones – but please listen responsibly.

Adding further functionality, the Phone Box can be used as a DI box. As before, connect the output of the amplifier to the Phone Box using the socket marked ‘AMP’ and then connect your speaker cabinet to the output socket marked ‘SPEAKER’. Lastly, take a balanced signal to the mixing desk of an in-house PA via the ‘BALANCED Di’ output.

The ‘Line Out’ can be used as a recording-out into your audio interface. The Line Out and Headphone Outputs can be used at the same time, as can the Balanced Di Output.

The Phone Box takes up minimal space on your desktop (or flight case), measuring 11.5cm x 6.5cm x 4cm (L x W x D) and weighting 531g.

All-in-all, the Phone Box is the ideal choice for both stage and studio, combining Ashdown’s exceptional audio performance with a heavy-weight construction, built to handle the rigorous of touring.

PLEASE NOTE. The Phone Box is designed specifically for use with a Solid-State amplifier. If you do decide to use the Phone Box as a DI with a Valve/Tube amplifier, an extension speaker must ALWAYS be connected.
