Deftones at the Forum
After getting a call almost a year ago from our good friend Fred Sablan saying he had a new gig playing bass with the Deftones. We were looking forward to seeing a show ever since and after a trip to Download festival on Saturday to see them in a field play to huge crowd we were invited down to see them play an intimate show at the awesome Kentish Town Forum. Having only really seen them play arenas and festivals in the past we were excited to see them bring down the house.
We were not disappointed it was a truly epic show with a set list spanning their entire back catalogue.
Fred sounded great through his ABM-600 dual VU heads into an ABM-810 cab (normally two but the stage was a little small) It filled the room with a huge amount of nostalgia being the sound track to our late 90’s early 20’s they blew the roof off with everyone singing/screaming every word as the crowd chanted ‘CHINO’ in-between tracks, the enigmatic front man who really held the crowd in his hand the entire set, not saying much but owning the room in only the way Chino can.
As big fans it was a great night and one we didn’t want to end with the gig selling out in 30 seconds the venue was rammed with a mixed audience of old and new fans embracing the ways of old! It was a proper rock show and we loved it! Massive thanks to Fred and all for having us down for the night! We can’t wait to see them again…
Needless to say the back catalogue is on in the office today as we write this and will echo throughout the week! If you haven’t listened to them in a while I implore you to put on ‘My Own Summer’ as loud as you can (without damaging your hearing) and remember what a force they are as a band and remember the late Chi Chung as the foundation of this band.
