James LoMenzo: Gear and Gigs – Over Land and Sea

Ashdown on Stage with James LoMenzo, Over Land and Sea...

Bass player in demand, James LoMenzo has recorded and toured with some of the biggest rock icons, including John Fogerty, Dave Mustaine, Zakk Wylde, David Lee Roth and Ozzy Osbourne, to name a few.

LoMenzo set sail on the the ‘Monster’s of Rock Cruise’ on 22nd February to 26th February with his Rush Tribute Band ‘Hurry’. Here they were joined by Steve Vai, Johnathan Mover, Brent Woods and Sebastian Bach.

Straight after that, James boarded the ‘Moody Blues Cruise III’ as bassist with rock legends, Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad) and Chuck Negron (Three Dog Night) and Brian Howe (Bad Company). Departing from Miami on 26th February 2016, the cruise visited tropical ports including Key West, Florida and Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas. James can be seen here tearing it up on the last nights’ all star jam with Frank Hannon, Brent Woods, Randy Hanson, Chas West, Jim Peterik and Carmine Appice (unseen).

On stage, James LoMenzo can be seen with his signature LoMenzo Hyper Drive Pedal. The LoMenzo Hyperdrive allows bass players to produce the famous classic overdriven sound of LoMenzo and just as you’d expect from an Ashdown product, the ‘J-Lo’ Hyperdive Pedal is built for the road in a rock-solid casing. Long time Ashdown artist, LoMenzo has recently been using the CTM-300 Valve head and he feels “positively corrupted by it!”

"I’ve used virtually every amp Ashdown has made and depending on the gig, still do. For the past year I started using the CTM-300 all tube head. This thing is a monster and perfectly suited for my gig with John Fogerty. It’s got the coolest drive and focus and it sounds BIG! I’m running that through the ABM-810 which I’ve used forever - it’s just a fantastic, bombastic rock sound with plenty of power. Of course, I always use my Ashdown signature ‘Hyperdrive’ in front of it just to add a bit of harmonic character to my bass. That’s about as simple a rig as I’ve used in a long time. I feel positively corrupted by it!”, said LoMenzo.
